Annual Hike - Whistler and Blackcomb words
and photos by Sharon Bader and Lee Lau unless otherwise noted. |
Every year just to mix it up Lee and I go for a hike. This year the wedding of our friend Emma and Thomas in Whistler brought Gary and his partner up from Salt Lake City. This is Rob's first real visit to Canada so we had to show him some of beautiful British Columbia!
First we take the Whistler Village Gondola up to the top of Whistler, this was the first 1200m leg of our journey!
We manage to get onto the Gondola with the glass floor! Check out these pillars!
Looking down we see Singing Pass Trail. This trail goes from Whistler Village to Cowboy Ridge and is our route of choice from the backcountry back home.
View up Singing Pass with Overlord in the middle, fissile on the right.
Looking back towards Whistler.
Once off the Peak2Peak we get onto the red bus which runs all summer taking skiers and snowboarders from the top of Solar Coaster to the snow on Horstman Glacier.
The next leg of our hike takes us up 7th Heaven chair.
The top of Blackcomb gives ever inspiring views across the valley to Whistler. You can see Cheakamus Glacier, Black Tusk and Garibaldi!
Closer view of Flute, Symphony and Harmony with Black Tusk prominently in the back.
Summer Glacier skiing! The boarders are on this side, the skiers are over more on Horstman Glacier.
We start our hike down 7th Heaven. Blackcomb peak is on the left, with Disease Ridge in the forground and Fissile in the back.
Time to continue back to the Peak2Peak. Nice view of Whistler valley.
Rob and Gary make their way down with Chainsaw Ridge in the back.
Back on the Peak2Peak to Whistler!
Bagged Whistler!
