  Garibaldi - May 12, 13, 2010

Words by Lee Lau unless otherwise noted.

Stu and I did a two day two night trip to try to ski some peaks in Garibaldi Park. On the first day, weather followed us around and objectives were adjusted - we tried to ski Parapet, Hour Pk, Castle Towers and clouds followed us. We gave in to fate and skied off Sphinx Gl.

The next day, all the cards fell into place and we skied off Mt Garibaldi. The corn cycle took a little while longer to start than usual & we waited on the peak taking in the view for an hour in 18 degree warm temps and basically zero wind. Our timing was perfect, the corn was perfect and we ripped turns 850m down the Warren Gl.The ski out was exceedingly warm and we fried like ants on a magnifying glass on Garibaldi Lake and the entire ski-out.

375m start at the bare parking lot

Morning on the first day. The Burton Hut is well and truly buried

Halfway up the Sphinx Glacier at 1900m and the clouds are building

Stu tries to outrun clouds coming in from the SW as we drop down to Gray Pass

After a lot of waiting around in a vain attempt to get weather windows we head back down to farm corn on the Sphinx Gl and experience a clear sunset

The next day we packed up and headed over to Sentinel Bay; dropped half our loads and headed up the Neve

The scale of this place is impressive - I'm still 550m and 2km shy of the summit and it looks very big
