Switzerland 2014 – Valais – Brig, St Luc, Becs de Bosson and Crans Montana.

Switzerland once again calls, this time we choose to explore some lesser knows areas with Martin Buetler of Alpine-Trails. As a local rider he knows where to ride, when and the best way to hook up the WanderWegs.

We wish to thank Tourism Switzerland, Valais Tourism, Brig Simplon Tourism, Sierre Anniviers, and Crans Montana for their support.

Day 1 – Simplon Pass – Senggchuppa – Brig

We arrive on a Monday afternoon and are efficiently transported via SBB from Zurich Airport to Brig where we meet Martin of Alpine Trails and check into the Hotel Victoria. This hotel is right across from the train station which makes if very convenient if not noisy at night. With the windows closed it was amazingly quiet, I do say our rooms were warm for our Canadian Blood.

We start our trip getting off the train at Brig and unpacking to head up to SimplonPass. Simplon was an old smugglers trail from Brig to Italy. The Post Auto bus takes you from 670m to 2005m. Bischtinupass is up another 350m or so. Then we ride S along the Nanztal valley towards the view of the Senggchuppa glacial moraine then back along multi-hundred year irrigation ditches/Suone/bisse and down to Brig

This trip we did with Martin Buetler of alpine-trails.ch. Check out his site if you want to get some ideas of how to do this trip
