I'm being a goof. The unpaved 800km long Cassiar Highway in Northern BC has a really soft shoulder so its no surprise to see RV's upside down like this. The owners were just around the corner and actually caught me in the act. Northern BC (8/94)

A quiet remote road north of Haines. My poor Toyota Tercel took a real beating on this trip. These small cars aren't made for huge long trips on crappy roads. In 2 weeks, Robert and I drove from Vancouver to the Alaska then back to Calgary. Yukon (8/94)

The front range of the Wrangell-St Elias mountains.  Kluane National Park, Yukon (8/94).

The Chilkoot Trail is the route of the 1897 Klondike Gold Rush. Its a 3 day backpack from the Alaskan coast to the highlands of the Yukon. Summer of 94 was the last year of unrestricted access for this trail. From then on, you have to book in advance and pay. Yukon (8/94)

Lots of big, bad grizzly bears wandering about in Denali Nat'l Park. The bigger ones are over 800 lbs, the size of a VW Beattle. I admit that I was peeing my pants the first time I bumped into one. Thankfully they do not bother skinny hikers like me. (6/97)

You camp wherever you please in  Denali Nat'l Park. Hiking here is the ultimate in backcountry travel. No trails, no campsites, no bridges, no nothing....just you, a compass and a good topo map.

Denali (6194m) is the highest mountain in North America. During the summer. its fully visible maybe 2 days a month. Lucky me ! Denali Nat'l Park, Alaska (6/97)

Mendenhall Glacier from Mt McGinnis, Juneau, Alaska (8/94).

Icebergs in mid-summer. Alaska's summer is only 3 months long but its warm, bright and the days are long. Portage Lake near Anchorage, Alaska (6/97)

It is a really special feeling to be in the wilderness for a couple of days. Just yourself and a backpack, fully self-sufficient, being totally disconnected from the outside life and not having a care in the world .....just for a few days. It is the ultimate therapy. Everyone ought to try it at least once. Dream campsite in Denali National Park, Alaska (6/97)
