The only way to see the top sites in Paris without the crowds and tour buses is really early in the morning. 6AM at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris (4/96). |
The highlight of my Europe trip was Morocco, which is not even in Europe. This 3 month trip was my first long solo backpack trip abroad. It really changed me. Berber village in the High Atlas mountains, Morocco (5/96). |
Barcelona is the biggest party city of all. Nobody appears to work. They would all laugh if they saw how serious we are about work and careers back home. Las Ramblas looks exactly the same at 4PM as 4AM, only its dark at 4AM. Spain (5/96) |
The Duomo in Florence. The Uffizzi Gallery and the Academia both had 2 hour line-ups so I skipped them. No big loss, art......yawn !!!! Italy (6/96). |
Venice is a really special place and deserves the hype it receives. Just like Paris, it will make a great honeymoon place someday. Cruising on the Grand Canal, Venice, Italy (6/96). |
Switzerland is Europe's pretty lily-white poster child. Its clean, picture perfect, safe but a bit boring and over-sanitized. Lake Thun, Interlaken, Switzerland (6/96). |
Montreal is one of the 3 nicest cities in North America (Vancouver and San Francisco being the 2 others). Expo Park, Montreal (9/95) |
Manhattan from the Staten Island ferry boat. I'm not fond of big cities but admit that New York City is a pretty unique place. (12/96) |
In the Atlantic Provinces, there are some pretty fishing villages here and there and some nice coastal scenery but it just doesn't justify the enormous distances you have to cover to see them. Traveling is about choices and I feel that if you are going to spend money and time to get somewhere, it better be very good. Nova Scotia (7/96) |
Niagara Falls is the only thing in the East which I would consider to be spectacular. Since I travel so much, lots of people ask me where to go and what to see? I tell them that, in my opinion, all the best sights in North America are in the West, unless you like big overcrowded cities. Niagara Falls, Ontario (7/96) |
If you want to get a taste of Europe but can't be bothered to fly across the Atlantic, just go to Quebec City (9/95). |
